Teaching & Learning

Updated 8/20/20

Take a look at some of the spaces we are preparing to safely welcome your students back to campus this fall here.

In the hybrid scenario, teaching & learning is both in-person and remote simultaneously. It is assumed that many teachers and students will be on campus, and some may be off campus and learning remotely due to health or travel restrictions. Classrooms will be configured for physical distancing with at least six feet between everyone. In-person teaching will happen in classrooms and there will be alternate spaces available on campus for remote learning in those cases where the number of enrolled students in a class and present on campus is larger than the capacity of that particular room or if a teacher is remote. At this time, all enrolled students will be welcome to come to campus every day and will have access to the dining hall, the library, and other spaces, with new health and wellness protocols.

As shared in May, we have reconfigured our daily schedule to meet the schedule of students in the Eastern time zone in the US and Asian time zones abroad. For students engaged in remote learning outside of those time zones, they may adjust their schedule to meet the activities happening on campus or participate in asynchronous learning with recorded lessons coordinated through their teacher. This schedule provides thirty minutes of “Flex Time” after each academic period during which students can meet with their teacher (in-person or remotely) or a small cohort of classmates to work on assignments, clarify ideas from class, or to stay after class to chat.

while teachers assigned “pass/fail” grades in spring 2020, we will return to our standard letter grades this fall, as described in the student handbook.
